Our Client is a leading European 3PL (third-party logistics) company. It has been involved in industrial goods logistics since 2005 and delivers over 35,000 full loads per year. The main markets are Germany, Benelux, and France. The Client’s activities aim to optimize logistic routes and realize “last mile” transports. In numerous logistics centers throughout Europe, the Client serves its partners in steel logistics, beverage logistics, warehouse logistics, and special and multimodal transport. Many companies now work with the Client, outsourcing their logistics operations and delegating transport, storage, and distribution.

THE CHALLENGE

The Client works with the automotive industry, which manufactures batteries for electric cars. His job is to store these products safely so that the storage process meets high safety standards. Each freshly manufactured battery has to “wait,” i.e., it has to be safely checked for quality several times. In this situation, storage racks are ideal.

However, the challenge was that the number of batteries produced varies over time. Sometimes, the customer receives a massive quantity of manufactured goods to be stored. Therefore, a flexible solution was needed, which would provide a buffer for storage.

The client is a world-renowned logistics company. It has been operating on the market since 1977 and is constantly developing, investing in technological development. As a 3PL (Third Party Logistics) company, it provides comprehensive logistics services worldwide to around 13,000 customers in various industries such as electronics, machinery, chemicals, oil refining, construction, distribution, food, energy, and fashion. In Poland, it cooperates with Rotom in renting warehouse packages.

THE CHALLENGE

The client is constantly expanding and is the owner of two new warehouses near Wroclaw. It is constantly increasing its storage space as it serves more and more customers. To deliver large quantities of products, a fully equipped warehouse space is needed. Currently, the warehouse was not yet equipped with fixed racks and customer service had to start as soon as possible. To this end, the logistics managers were looking for a temporary solution that would serve its purpose until the warehouse halls were equipped with a storage system designed for them.

Our Client is a multinational corporation and the market leader in construction products. It manages over 600 stores in Europe, 59 of which are located in Poland. The Client plans further intensive development of its store network. The popularity of the Client’s chain of DIY stores results from a well-chosen assortment, knowledge of the needs of the local markets, and a rich offer of services.

THE CHALLENGE

Storing solution

Storing goods outside or inside the warehouse is always a significant logistical challenge in large DIY stores. It is especially true for loads with unusual dimensions, which protrude beyond the confines of the pallet. The Customer was preparing stores for the time of intensive sales in the spring and summer. During this time, all kinds of garden umbrellas, tents, and other “long” products used in gardens and balconies are widespread in sales.

At the end of February 2020, containers with goods from China were arriving. The Client’s warehouses needed additional space to store large quantities of products. At the same time, the “usual” seasonal challenge was made even more difficult by the pandemic and the temporary closure of stores. The goods had to be stored somewhere.

What’s more, when the lockdown ended, and the stores reopened, the pandemic affected an increase in e-commerce orders, and the Client’s online store experienced an actual siege. It, in turn, prompted the Customer to increase storage space to deliver orders to customers even faster. An optimal storage solution had to be found.

Why has pallet posts rental proven to be an effective solution?

Rental is a convenient solution because the carriers are always available on hand, which is essential during supply disruptions, as was the case during the pandemic. The Client himself determined the time of rental and the conditions of using it, so the offer was “tailor-made” to his needs. In this way, the rental agreement was beneficial to both parties, primarily financially viable for the Customer, who did not have to invest in purchasing packaging or maintaining additional storage space.
