Our client is a nationwide trading company, focusing its operations on the domestic and international markets to sell dairy raw materials to the food industry in the B2B sector.
It is a very demanding industry in terms of hygiene, so it is necessary to take care of the purity of logistic carriers at each stage of the supply chain. The customer is constantly expanding its business by sending products to distribution centers of large companies and food wholesale chains.
THE CHALLENGE
Expanding food indystry business
The customer was expanding their business and wanted to find the optimum solution for using and handling H1 plastic pallets. It is a medium required in the food industry, and wherever hygienic standards must be as high as possible.
The main challenge was the high price of pallets. Compared to a wooden pallet (about 30 PLN), a plastic pallet costs at least 200 PLN per piece. If the pallet is in circulation nonstop, investing in such a carrier, the purchase costs, pay off. However, the customer’s supply chain looks different. When sending goods on a pallet to the recipient, it was unknown exactly when the next shipment or pickup would occur. On the other hand, the customer wanted to pick up the pallets from the distribution point. In this situation, the logistics managers wondered if they could find a company that could adapt flexibly to its growth while relieving the work of the company’s logistics.
The Solution from Rotom
Searching for a solution, the client found Rotomrent’s rental website. They were seeking a partner that could flexibly adapt their range of services to their needs.
The project has been going on since 2018 when the client reported a rental requirement of several hundred H1 plastic pallets. In the beginning, it was a classic rental, where Rotom rented a given quantity to the client and collected it after some time. Meanwhile, the project evolved into mini-pooling. It led to a framework agreement with more specific terms of service. Pallet rental is a very convenient solution for the client as they do not need to search for a place to store, e.g., a thousand pallets. Besides delivering the pallets to a specific location and collecting them later, Rotom takes care of the whole service.
We adapted to the client’s needs, so the entire process is as follows: The client makes a request for pallets for a period of two or three weeks. Rotom sends the rented pallets directly to the client’s contractors at the collection point. The client uses the pallets and then, after the agreed period, notifies us that the pallets need to be collected. We collect them and bring them to an ideal condition by cleaning them with special preparation, and we confirm compliance with high sanitary requirements with a document.
We send pallets all over the country to various institutions – cold stores, freezers, and food warehouses.
